Pressure-treated wood is ideal for fences, decks and tough outdoor environments. But even though it's treated, it still needs to be protected. Here's why: the process that creates pressure-treated wood also makes it extremely wet. That's why it needs to dry for up to a year before traditional oil- and water-based stains can be applied - and because wet wood is unstable, it can dry unevenly and cause severe warping and checking.
